Sony Announces 2011 HDTV Lineup
Sony has announced details of their 2011 HDTV lineup, which includes 27 new models, including updated models of their 3D Bravia range. The monolithic design approach that was used on many of their 2010 models will now be used across their range, and some of the models are also using Corning’s tough Gorilla Glass. Promoted under the title of “Television Redefined”, the company is promoting Internet content as being the wave of the future.

The new 3D flagship product is the HX929 series, which will be available in 55-inch (XBR-55HX929), and 46-inch (XBR-46HX929) sizes. This display offers Full HD panels with Intelligent Peak LED back lights and MotionFlow XR960 motion processing. The LEd back light is an array which allows the display to perform local dimming, where the backlight in darker areas of the screen are dimmed. It will be available in march, but no pricing is currently available.

The HX820 also offers edge-lit LED back lights with MotionFlow 400 motion processing and a slim design. It will be available in 55-inch (KDL-55HX820), and 46-inch (KDL-46HX820) sizes.

The NX720 offers the monolithic design approach that was seen on many of their high-end 2010 models, as well as a wireless Internet connection and Skype video calling.
The EX720 series is in the middle of the range, and offers Skype video calling and 3D video support. It will be available in 60-inch (KDL-60EX720, which is available in April), 55-inch (KDL-55EX720), 46-inch (KDL-46EX720), 40-Inch (KDL-40EX720), and 32-inch (KDL-32EX720) sizes.
The EX620 is another edge-lit LED series which also supports Skype video calling. It will be available in 55-inch (KDL-55EX620), 46-inch (KDL-46EX620), and 40-Inch (KDL-40EX620) sizes.
The EX320 is designed to be a TV for the second room, such as a bedroom or kitchen. It also includes Wi-Fi and Skype video calling. It will be available in 32-inch (KDL-32BX320) and 22-inch (KDL-22BX320) sizes.
The new announcements also include two 3D camcorders (a 3D Bloggie and a high-end camcorder: the HDR-TD10) and a 3D laptop, and a prototype 3D head-mounted display. They also unveiled a prototype 24-inch OLED HDTV and a number of 2K and 4K displays, but did not give any details of when these products would be available.
