Introduction
Introduction |
||||
The 32LG40 is the 32-inch option in LG's LG40 series of 720p LCD televisions. According to LG's site, this series prides itself on high contrast ratios, 3 HDMI ports, and a built-in DVD player. While the TV certainly has a DVD player and 3 HDMI slots, we were unimpressed by the contrast ratio.The 32LG40 retails for a suggested price of $850, but you can probably find it for less online. |

| Section | The Good | The Bad |
| Tour & Design | Plain design will blend in easily. | No included cables, some assembly required. |
| Blacks & Whites | Great whites and tunnel contrast. | Poor black level gives TV bad contrast ratio. |
| Color Accuracy | N/A | Blacks will always be slightly blue. |
| Motion | No issues with 3:2 pulldown or 24fps modes. | Moving images blur, non-native resolutions have some artifacting. |
| Viewing Effects | Great viewing angle, especially for an LCD, screen diffuses light well. | Diffused light will wash out a large percentage of the screen. |
| Remote Control | Buttons are a good size, have great tactile feedback, and are clearly labeled. | Somewhat awkward layout, poorly balanced, buttons neither have a unique texture or glow in the dark. |
| Audio | Good maximum volume. | Poor audio quality and SRS. |
| Connectivity | Good array of input ports. | Not many outputs, no wireless, no media expansion. |
| Menus & Interface | Intuitive tabbed design. | Useless initial screen. |
| Formats & Media | Built-in DVD player. | No photo/music/video playback or streaming, 720p isn't top HD format. |
| Power Consumption | Low cost/year, even at max backlight. | Draws power even when turned off. |

Samsung UN32D5500 LED LCD HDTV Review
The D5500 has a rather high MSRP of $699, considering it’s only a 32-inch TV. There are some “premiums upgrades,” a term we use with some dubiousness, knowing that these features can be far less valuable than they appear. Nevertheless, at its core this is a good television. If you can find it a significantly reduced price it would make a great addition to a home theater. Read More...
