Power Consumption (8.92)

Your HDTV will up your yearly electrical bill. The amount of this increase depends on the TV. Because of this, we test each TV to see how much juice they require to run each year. We assume average usage.

The 47LH90 is pretty cheap for a 47-inch set. If you keep the backlight at 200 cd/m2, which should be more than enough, it'll only cost you $21.56 per year.

The TV also has a power-saving, eco-friendly, Captain Planet mode with various settings. When the backlight is at zero, though, this feature doesn't make your TV any eco-friendlier. If you do like some brightness to your screen, however, you can set the mode to Auto, which will automatically set the TV's backlight to be appropriate for your setting.

Setting Average Watts Cost per Year
Backlight: 0 50.5 $9.86
Backlight: 38 (200 cd/m2) 110.4 $21.56
Backlight: 100 209.7 $40.94

Below is a chart comparing the average power consumption costs of the 47LH90 and a few competing TVs.
