Moneual Stylish Sound TV First Impressions Review
Moneual showed off its Stylish Sound TV, which has a 100-watt subwoofer built in.
When you think of South Korean electronics and appliances, there are two names that really stand out: LG and Samsung. What if I told you there was another brand, a newcomer to the consumer electronics market? The company in question is Moneual (pronounced man-wall), and it is one to look out for.
At CES, the company showed off a 70-inch model called the Stylish Sound TV, also known as the TV700 OS, if you want to get technical. While the picture seemed average, the real draw of this television was its audio horsepower: two 20-watt speakers and a 100-watt subwoofer are built into the display. Fans of hip hop and K-pop, rejoice: The Stylish Sound TV offers serious bass.
The all-white design looks very modern, which may not appeal to TV traditionalists.
The all-white design of the 70-inch Stylish Sound TV is definitely different. We’re not sure how people will react to its white hardware, especially if it doesn't fit a particular living room’s aesthetic. That’s not to say it looks bad—in fact, the display is very eye-catching and modern, attributes that plenty of consumers value.
The stand—again, pure white—looks reminiscent of certain LG designs. A “ribbon” of metal surrounds the TV’s base, supporting the pale display.
The remote, however, is rather plain. There are buttons for all of your basic needs, like volume control, channel control, and power. A few other keys were in Korean, so for all we know, they could unlock some hidden powers within the Stylish Sound TV.
The picture quality looks average, but the sound on this TV will blow you away.
It’s hard to get a feel for how well a TV on the CES show floor will perform, especially when the only content playing is a bright K-pop video. Colors looked great, although they certainly didn’t pop like the OLED models we’ve seen from the other Korean brands.
With a product called the Stylish Sound TV, the focus here is no secret: Two 20-watt speakers are rare on today’s current models, but a 100-watt subwoofer is unheard of. This is the result of a collaboration with speaker manufacturer Onkyo.
Actually hearing this TV in action was impressive, thanks largely to the huge subwoofer. The bass was absolutely thumping. Even though the show floor was loud and crowded, we had no problem hearing this TV.
Moneual tried something different with its Stylish Sound TV, and we can't complain about that.
A representative for Moneual told us that the company wants to secure distribution for its displays in America, including the Stylish Sound TV. We hope this happens: the sound alone was impressive enough to warrant further interest. While the picture quality looked good, the TV seemed a bit on the bright side—this was probably a demo mode meant for the CES show floor, but we weren't terribly impressed. Let us reiterate, though: the sound was excellent.
No pricing details were announced, but Moneual hopes to have some TVs released this year in the American market; whether that includes the Stylish Sound TV remains to be seen.
In an industry dominated by LG and Samsung, it’s nice to see a new face try something different.
