Conclusion

Panasonic Viera TC-P50G10

Editorial Note: This is a review of the Panasonic TC-P50G10. Test results are for this model, but should indicate the general performance of other sizes in the Panasonic TC-PxxG10 series. The Panasonic TC-PxxG10 series includes the following models: TC-P42G10, TC-P46G10, TC-P50G10, and TC-P54G10.  Read here for more details on series differences. The Panasonic TC-P50G10 is not a top-performer. It's special features are rather modest compared to some of the more expensive models. But neither is it an entry-level TV that's guaranteed to underwhelm. The G10 series is somewhere in the middle, with the enticing addition of internet access and the 'Viera Cast' suite of online widgets and content providers. If you don't care about having direct access to on-demand content through your TV, the decision is simple – save money and buy a slightly cheaper Panasonic or other TV. But maybe you're interest has been piqued.

The Viera Cast suite doesn't have much to offer, but it's key content feeder is Amazon Video on Demand, which has a healthy archive of movies and TV shows. It's hard to compete with Netflix, but it your tastes run fairly modern and mainstream, Amazon likely has the content you want.

The TC-P50G10's performance is good, but not great. We loved the deep blacks, but the whites should have been brighter. The Achilles heel was motion performance, which created a lot of artifacting. It's harder to notice in broadcast cable and Blu-Ray movies, but our more challenging stress tests made the problem painfully evident.

Overall, the Panasonic TC-P50G10 is a good TV. If you like what you've read but want to save money, look for other Panasonics without the LAN port and Viera Cast. If performance is crucial to you, bite the bullet and increase your budget, or look at other manufacturers.
