Panasonic 20-inch 4K2K
By David Kender January 12, 2012
Panasonic 20-inch 4K2K

Introduction

One of the biggest buzzwords floating around CES is the term 4K, also referred to as 4K2K, or sometimes (erroneously) UDTV or ultra definition. Essentially, 4K is just a sharper image than HD, by a factor of two. The Panasonic 20-inch 4K2K, debuting at this year’s CES, is a prototype of that technology. Don’t expect to see it in stores this year, or even in 2013. There’s virtually no content for 4K right now, no easy standard for delivering it to the TV, and the manufacturing costs are high. We’ll see it in medical imaging before we see it in the living room. That said, we’re deeply impressed with the demo and the underlying tech, which promises some very interesting things to come.
