January 07, 2009Samsung Announces Ultra Slim & High Efficiency Plasma TVs
7th Jan 2009 – Thin is in for Samsung’s Plasma TV lineup for 2009; the just announced PNXXB850 is just an inch thick, and the PNXXB550 uses 50% less electricity. The new models were unveiled at the CES show in Las Vegas, and will be available in the half of 2009. No pricing information was available.
The PNXXB850 will be available in 50 and 58-inch sizes, and includes Samsung’s new Ultra FilterBright Plus technology, which they claim reduces glare from outside lights, but without affecting the contrast ratio of the display. Samsung claims that the black level luminance of the new model is 50% less than previous models, which would make for depper, more attractive blacks. The PNXXB850 also includes Wide Color Enhancer Pro color processing, which they claim provides a wider color gamut from standard signal sources.
The other Plasma TV product that was announced is the new PMXXB550, which the company claims uses around 50% less electricity than previous models. Plasma TVs have traditionally been power hungry, so any attempt to reduce the amount of power they use is a welcome move. The PMXB550 also includes 600Hz motion processing, and will be available in 50, 58 and 63-inch sizes.
Both models also include an Ethernet connection that allows access to online content through the Internet@TV platform that is offered on most of the companies televisions, as well as support for the new DLNA wireless standard, that allows them to connect to computers and other media players that support the DLNA standard.

Samsung UN32D5500 LED LCD HDTV Review
The D5500 has a rather high MSRP of $699, considering it’s only a 32-inch TV. There are some “premiums upgrades,” a term we use with some dubiousness, knowing that these features can be far less valuable than they appear. Nevertheless, at its core this is a good television. If you can find it a significantly reduced price it would make a great addition to a home theater. Read More...
