The UN55B7000 is in the middle of Samsung's new Luxia LED TV range, below the 8 series models, but above the 6 series. It's available in 3 sizes: the 55 inches (the UN55B7000), 46 inches (the LN46B7000) and 40 inches (the LN 40B7000). It doesn't have the 240Hz Auto Motion Plus technology of the 8000 range, but it does have 120Hz motion processing. Like all of the new Luxia models announced at the CES show, the new model replaces the CCFL (Cold Cathode Florescent Light) backlight used on most displays with white LEDs positioned around the edge of the screen.
There are two benefits to this; the LEDs use less power, and they don't include the unpleasant Mercury vapor that CCFLs use, so there are fewer noxious chemicals that could turn the earth into a barren wasteland. Of course, the big question with any large display is cost. At the moment, we don't know anything about this: Samsung have not released any pricing details, and replied to our questions with polite smiles.
