Introduction
This is a review of the Samsung LN40B610. The other TVs in this series include the LN46B610 and the LN55B610. Test data should be broadly applicable to all models in the 610 series. Read our series comparison page for more details on series differences.
Priced at around $1050, the Samsung LN46B610 is a mid-priced 40-inch 1080p LCD that has great performance. It's a little more expensive than some similar models, but has better performance than most, particularly in our motion tests.

Tour & Design Touch of Color design is very attractive No major problems
Blacks & Whites Bright Whites Blacks not as deep as some displays
Color Accuracy Whites are consistent, smooth RGB response curves Color gamut is a little off
Motion Motion is smooth and detailed Some minor artifacts
Viewing Effects Doesn't show reflections Poor viewing angle
Remote Control Remote is comfortable to use with big buttons and a backlight Can't control other devices
Connectivity Plenty of HDMI and analog video inputs Some ports a little awkward to reach
Audio & Menus Speakers have plenty of volume and good quality sound Pseudo-surround sound mode doesn't add much
Formats & Media Supports every current HD video format No issues
Power Consumption Costs about $27 a year to run  Costs about $36 at maximum backlight
