May 19, 2009 - Sales of High Definition televisions declined 6% in the first quarter of 2009 compared to the same period a year before according to DisplaySearch. Samsung (see reviews) was the number one retailer worldwide with 22.1% of the market. Total televisions shipped in the first quarter amounted to 43.3 million units worldwide.

As you've probably noticed if you've shopped for an HDTV recently prices have been going down, with the average selling price dropping 6% for a total decline in revenues of 12%. Sales of LCD televisions were up 27%, while sales of Plasma televisions stayed flat. CRT television sales fell 38%. Behind Samsung in terms of market share were LG at 13.3%, Sony at 13.1%, Sharp at 7.2% and Panasonic at 6.1%.
