September 03, 2008Sharp announces two limited-edition HDTVs
Sharp has announced two limited-edition LCD HDTVs: the 52-inch LC-52XS1U-S and the 65-inch LC-65XS1U-S. Both units have shiny new 10-bit Advanced Super View (ASV) LCD panels, which will be capable of 1080p. Other similarities between the TVs include AQUOS Net functionality, a back-lit RGB-LED system, and a dynamic contrast ratio that's greater than 1,000,000:1. Like Samsung's new, emaciated LCD, both TVs feature a thickness equal to one inch. Unlike the Samsung unit, however, the Sharps are 1-inch at their thinnest part, meaning 90% of them is sure to be a great deal thicker than that. Both sets will be released in October for an as-yet-unreleased cost to you, the consumer. [Via Engadget]

Samsung UN32D5500 LED LCD HDTV Review
The D5500 has a rather high MSRP of $699, considering it’s only a 32-inch TV. There are some “premiums upgrades,” a term we use with some dubiousness, knowing that these features can be far less valuable than they appear. Nevertheless, at its core this is a good television.
