Conclusion
As an entry-level HDTV the Sony Bravia KDL-32L5000 doesn't do a bad job. We were happy with the solid selection of connectivity options, with 3 HDMI ports available. We also liked the excellent contrast ratio, above average black levels and reasonable color performance.

Unfortunately the KDL-32L5000 combines these benefits with a significant number of drawbacks, not surprising for a $550 HDTV. The motion handling was particularly poor, the viewing angle was unimpressive and the audio quality was uninspiring. You also get a lower resolution at 720p.

All of these are unsurprising compromises on an inexpensive HDTV, but we've seen televisions in this price range that have fewer compromises. That said the KDL-32L5000's solid black level and excellent contrast ratio stand out as particularly good in this class, and that might be worth all the other compromises.
