September 03, 2008Sony Bravia to get 240Hz frame rate
One of the TVs Sony announced at CEDIA is the Bravia KDL-52XBR7 LCD TV. Why is it special enough to merit a blog post? It features a 240Hz frame rate, as compared to the standard 60 frames per second. In an effort to explain the delicate process through which such a high frame rate is possible, Sony has trademarked the term Motionflow. While they don't really explain what Motionflow is or how it works, they do assure you it quadruples the conventional LCD frame rate (in case you forgot that 240 fps / 60 fps = 4). They also mention something about 'interpolating three new frames.' They do not, however, mention whether or not our poorly-designed human eyeballs will be able to appreciate the increase over the current higher-end frame rate, 120Hz. [Via Gizmodo]
