Introduction
The Sony KDL-40EX400 ($599 MSRP) is an inexpensive LCD TV. Eschewing fancy LED backlighting for older CCFL technology, the TV nevertheless managed to impress us with great contrast and color performance. It lacks some bells and whistles that you’d find on more expensive Sonys, like streaming content and DLNA support, but you get what you pay for.
Editorial Note: This is a review of the Sony Bravia KDL-40EX400. Test results are for this model, but should indicate the general performance of other sizes in the KDL-xxEX400 series. The KDL-xxEX400 series includes the following models: KDL-32EX400, KDL-40EX400 and KDL-46EX400. Read here for more details on series differences.
