Calibration Summary

Editorial Note: This is a review of the Toshiba 46RV525R. Test results are for this model, but should indicate the general performance of other sizes in the RV525R series. The RV525R series includes the following models: 32RV525R, 37RV525R, and 40RV525R.  Read here for more details on series differences.

• Used Movie mode.
• Had to adjust Color slightly.
• Calibration done using DisplayMate Software

Calibration

When we review TVs, we want to compare them across a common ground. We therefore calibrated each TV to best suit our testing environment, ensuring we're getting the best possible results from each. We've listed the changes we made in the table below. If a setting isn't listed in the table, we didn't alter it.

It's unusual that we have to adjust the 'Color' setting on a TV, but in the case of the Toshiba 46RV525R, we noticed that the red and blue channels were peaking much too early (that is, they were missing a lot of detail in the highlights). We lowered the Color setting, and found that we could regain some of that detail without affecting the brightness or contrast ratio. You may wish to do the same on your 46RV525R.

Setting Default Calibrated
Picture Mode Movie mode
Contrast 90 48
Backlight 20 100
Brightness 50 56
Color 50 39
Sharpness 10 0
DNR Middle Off
