Calibration Summary

Editorial Note: This is a review of the Vizio SV470XVT1A. Test results are for this model, but should indicate the general performance of other sizes in the SVxx0XVT1A series. The SVxx0XVT1A series includes the following models: SV420XVT1A and SV470XVT1A.  Read here for more details on series differences.

• Start with the Movie mode setting for most accurate color
• Lots of video modes without much of an explanation
• Calibration done using DisplayMate Software

Calibration

We began the calibration process by putting the Vizio SV470XVT1A in Movie mode, which frequently produces the most accurate colors. From there, we use DisplayMate software and a colorimeter to calibrate setting by setting.

Setting Default Calibrated
Picture Mode Movie
Backlight 60 100
Brightness 50 47
Contrast 50 37
Color 50 50
Sharpness 3 3

Video Modes

The Vizio menu and instructional manual do not provide descriptions for the many picture modes of the Vizio SV470XVT1A. The bevy of sports mode is outlandishly unnecessary. We do our best to describe it.

Mode What it Does
Standard Fit for most everyday viewing
Movie Darker, less saturated
Game Most or all processing is turned off so as to reduce delay between signal and display
Vivid Higher saturation
Football Higher saturation and contrast than the other sports mode
Golf Like movie mode, but a little brighter
Basketball Unknown
Baseball Brighter
Custom Your own settings
