Conclusion

VIZIO SV470XVT1A

Editorial Note: This is a review of the Vizio SV470XVT1A. Test results are for this model, but should indicate the general performance of other sizes in the SVxx0XVT1A series. The SVxx0XVT1A series includes the following models: SV420XVT1A and SV470XVT1A.  Read here for more details on series differences. The Vizio SV470XVT1A is a great value, considering the low price and the big, 47-inch screen. It's strategies like that that have made Vizio one of the biggest players in North American television sales. Before you leap, however, you should know what you're getting.

The performance is actually pretty solid. While the black levels and contrast ratio were disappointing, it lacks a lot of the frills that other 47-inch TVs offer. There's no multimedia ports and no LAN connectivity. Like most LCD TVs, the viewing angle is terrible. There's also a few little touches that lessen the overall experience, like the painfully narrow target zone for aiming the remote control, the difficult to reach ports, and the fact that the base doesn't swivel.

That said, it's easy to believe that a lot of people can live with those concessions for such an inexpensive 47-inch TV. You get more that decent performance at a great price.
